Relief for Muscles, Joints, and Pain

If pain or stiffness is keeping you from moving the way you want, acupuncture may help. At Ohana Chiropractic and Wellness, Dr. Emily Burke-Hary, a Doctor of Chiropractic and certified acupuncturist, uses acupuncture to help ease muscle and joint pain, reduce tension, and support your body’s natural healing.

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile, single-use needles placed at specific points on the body. For muscle and joint concerns, these points are often in and around the area of pain, as well as related areas that affect how you move. Research suggests acupuncture may help calm pain signals, relax tight muscles, and improve circulation to support recovery.

Most patients feel little to no discomfort. You may notice a mild ache, warmth, or heaviness near the needle, and many people find the treatment deeply relaxing.

What Acupuncture Can Help Address

Acupuncture may help with:

  • Low back pain and stiffness
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Headaches, including tension headaches
  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain
  • Knee, hip, and other joint pain, including arthritis
  • Muscle tension, strains, and sports injuries
  • Jaw pain and TMJ concerns
  • Plantar fasciitis and tendon irritation

Acupuncture and Chiropractic Care Together

Acupuncture pairs naturally with chiropractic care. Adjustments help restore motion to the spine and joints, while acupuncture helps calm pain and release muscle tension. Because Dr. Emily is trained in both, she can combine them in a plan built around your needs, and she works closely with Dr. Brandy when you’re seeing both doctors.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Your first visit begins with a conversation about your pain, health history, and goals, followed by an exam to understand what’s driving your symptoms. Dr. Emily will explain each step, answer your questions, and begin treatment the same day when appropriate.

During treatment, you’ll rest comfortably while the needles are in place, usually for about 20 minutes. Many patients notice changes after a few sessions, and Dr. Emily will recommend a plan based on your response.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

When performed by a trained provider using sterile, single-use needles, acupuncture is considered very safe. Minor side effects, like slight soreness or a small bruise, can happen but are uncommon and short-lived. Let us know if you’re pregnant, take blood thinners, or have a bleeding disorder so we can plan your care safely.
